Horizon Europe is the most important framework programme for research and innovation of the European Commission (2021 – 2027).

Its total budget is €95,5 million.

The programme was designed to tackle the climate change challenge and it is aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Its main objective is to boost the EU’s competitiveness and growth. It strengthens the impact of research and innovation in developing, supporting and implementing EU policies while tackling global challenges.

The programme is also known as «Europe Horizon» o «Horizon Europe Programme».

Europe Horizon is composed of three pillars.

Excellence science

Aimed at reinforcing and extending the excellence of the Union’s science base.

There are three funding programmes:

  1. European Research Council
  2. Marie Sklodowska-Curie actions
  3. Research Infrastructures

Global challenges & European industrial competitiveness

Boosting key technologies and solutions underpinning EU policies & Sustainable Development Goals.

The clusters are:  

  1. Health
  2. Culture, Creativity & Inclusive Societies
  3. Civil Security Society
  4. Digital Industry & Space
  5. Climate Energy & Mobility
  6. Food Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture & Environment

Innovative Europe

Stimulating market-creating breakthroughs and ecosystems conducive to innovation.

There are three funding frameworks:

  1. European Innovation Ecosystems
  2. European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT)
  3. European Innovation Council (EIC)

Aristos’ main focus & expertise is the European Innovation Council (EIC).

The EIC aims to identify and support breakthrough technologies and game-changing innovations with the potential to scale up internationally and become market leaders. It supports all stages of innovation from research and development on the scientific underpinnings of breakthrough technologies, from validation and demonstration of breakthrough technologies and innovations to meet real world needs, to the development and scaling up of start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Financial support is provided through three main funding schemes:

  1. The ‘EIC Pathfinder’ for advanced research on breakthrough / game-changing technologies
  2. EIC Transition’ for transforming research results into innovation opportunities
  3. EIC Accelerator’ for individual companies to develop and scale up breakthrough innovations with high risk and high impact.

Accelerator 2023

Supports SMEs and startups to scale up high impact innovations to create new markets or disrupt existing ones.
