LEDVAR-Z, de Electrans

A new model for efficient and modern rail signage

The current rail signage system remains incredibly outdated all over the world. First, the messages of the electronic signals are defined during production. This means that personalized signals must be designed, ordered and manufactured whenever the needs change. Second, there is a large number of cables and interlocking stations that require installation, maintenance and increased operational costs, and, third, the current rail monitoring system is rudimentary and requires unnecessary energy consumption.

The objective of our client, Electrans, is to improve the current railway signaling system and take a step forward towards the full implementation of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS).

LEDVAR-Z, the solution proposed by Electrans, is an innovative ITC system that will standardize and modernize railway signaling, making it more efficient. It consists of high quality LED signals capable of displaying any type of light or message, and intelligent software that monitors and controls what is displayed. Less interconnected stations will be needed and can communicate with signals through fiber optic cables or radio networks. As a result, LEDVAR-Z will drastically reduce costs for companies, streamline railway projects and improve the management of rail traffic control.

To carry out this LEDVAR-Z project, Electrans submitted their proposal to the SME Instrument phase 1 call for the first time in September 2017 and a second one in November 2017, and we are pleased to announce that the company has obtained the necessary grant to carry out the tasks required in this phase, after obtaining a score of 13.52 in the second call.

We are very pleased to have been able to participate in the success of LEDVAR-Z and we wish our client great success in the development of their project.
